West Cornwall, the perfect location
|
| The
coastline of West Cornwall runs from St. Ives in the North to Penzance and
Mount’s Bay in the south to create an island atmosphere. Little wonder
then that this corner of the UK is often referred to as the ‘Island
Kingdom’. The peninsula stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean providing
36 miles of coastline - and the open secret of this peninsula - it provides
some of the clearest ocean waters around the UK. It is often said that Cornwall
can provide some of the best, if not the best, diving experiences of Northern
Europe. The harbours, coves and picturesque fishing villages around the
rugged coastline, many of which still buzz with the activity of traditional
fishing industries, provide an idyllic backdrop to some of Europe’s
finest holiday destinations.
As you approach Penzance, by road or rail, the panorama that lies before you is filled with the awe inspiring St Michael's Mount. The Mount forms the focal point of the Bay which sweeps along the coastline from Land’s End to the Lizard Point. |

Your imagination is stimulated by the appearance of this almost mystical, rocky, wooded isle that reaches out into the Atlantic with its fairy-tale castle perched on its peak. Legendary tales surround the Mount which over the centuries has played host to many Royal visitors. The Mount provides an excellent subject for the keen photographer, dramatic lighting courtesy of hazy summer days or moonlit nights. The seas around the West Cornish coastline are steeped in history and legendary tales of pirate ships and smuggler's coves to modern day heroic lifeboat rescues. These waters are renowned for providing some of the most fascinating opportunities to explore and discover the remains of some of the UK's most historical wrecks - we're not saying you'll find any long lost treasure - but if you do, you have to share it with us!! |
